Mathematics is about learning new, interesting ideas and techniques and, when they have been assimilated, using them to solve new problems, many of which may be models of a real-life situation. As such, it is a linear subject in which most new concepts build on those already learnt, and therefore the main working methods are the regular introduction of a new concept followed by homework exercises to enable you to learn the concept and situations in which it can be used.

The study of Maths helps students to understand numbers, algebra, geometry and statistics. It also develops students’ ability to think abstractly and critically, and to use these skills to see links between these four concepts and solve problems.


In Key Stage 3 at Laureate Academy, we are introducing the Mathematics Mastery programme of study. This involves studying particular topics in depth before moving on, thereby ensuring complete understanding (“mastery”) of the curriculum content. Students develop a detailed and strong comprehension of many key mathematical ideas: place value, shape, algebra, and graphs.


All students at Laureate Academy study Mathematics at GCSE level. We follow the demandingly challenging but excitingly rewarding Edexcel syllabus, which develops students’ mathematical confidence and enthusiasm, and which builds a strong foundation for transition to further study in Mathematics at Sixth Form, University and beyond. Students gain the knowledge to tackle problems in areas including geometry, algebra, statistics and probability. They have the option to study at either Higher or Foundation level.

Sixth Form

In the Sixth Form, we offer the Edexcel specification in Mathematics. This A-Level is highly regarded by employers, demonstrating an aptitude for problem-solving and intellectual capacity. Over two years, students will be taken on a fascinating and exciting mathematical journey, considering the principles of Pure Mathematics, as well as Statistics and Mechanics. Students develop resilience, persistence, and the ability to pose questions and challenge ideas.
