Admissions Arrangements

Laureate Academy is a non-selective comprehensive school, with an agreed Published Admissions Number (PAN) of 210 new Year 7 students per academic year.

All Year 7 admissions applications are considered against these criteria. After the admission of students with Statements of Special Educational Needs where Laureate Academy is named on the Statement, the criteria will be applied in this order:

Rule 1:

Admission of children in public care (looked-after children).

Rule 2:

Admission of children with specific medical, social, or special needs.

Rule 3:

Admission of children with siblings currently attending the Academy.

Rule 4:

Admission of children who live in the priority area for whom it is their nearest* Hertfordshire maintained school or academy that is non-faith, co-educational and non-partially selective.

Rule 5:

Admission of children who live in the priority area who live nearest to the school.

Rule 6:

Admission of children living outside the priority area on the basis of distance, with those living nearest to the school given priority.

These rules are applied in the order they are printed above. If more children qualify under a particular rule than there are places available, a tie break will be used by applying the next rule to those children.

Appeals

If it has not been possible to offer your child a place at Laureate Academy, you have the right, by law, to appeal to an independent appeal panel. Please bear in mind that although the law allows you to have the opportunity to appeal against admission decisions, it does not give your child the automatic right to a place at a particular school. There is no guarantee that your appeal will be successful and each case will be decided on its own merits by the independently appointed panel.

Appeals for Laureate Academy are processed by Hertfordshire County Council, and further information about the process can be found on the Hertfordshire County Council’s website. If you are appealing for Secondary Transfer 2020, your application outcome letter will include information on the timescale for submitting an appeal.
